Well our 2009 racing season has officially started. We made the two and a half hour haul out to Trailways Speedway in Hanover Pa. on Saturday March 21, 2009. The season started off great with Billy and Gary picking pill number one at sign ins. Putting Billy on the pole for the first heat race. With one short 4 lap practice to shake the car down and get the rust out, Billy set out on the pole for the first heat race and took the lead on the green flag and went the distance to grab the checkered and his first heat race win of the season. Congrats to Billy. There were 49, 600’s signed it at trailways for their second race weekend of the season. They redrew for lineups for the feature putting us in the 7th starting position of 24 cars in the feature. This is the first time for Billy with the new rear sway in the car this year. The Hunter’s CARSTAR number 7h started off strong holding its position and then billy said it started to push. He was able to hold on and finished 11th for his first race of the new year. We were encouraged by the performance of the car right out of the hauler and look forward to the rest of the season. Hopefully the warm weather will stay with us this spring. Back at you next week

Wow,  Where do I begin and how do I say thanks to all those that supported us last weekend.
I wanted to thank everyone involved in the First ever "Racing for a Cure", Meet and Greet Show and Fundraiser at the Granite Run Mall in Media Pa. on March 7 & 8, 2009 show that helped make it a huge success. It's been over 4 years since the cars of Bridgeport Speedway have invaded the Granite Run Mall. I wanted to send a special thanks to Jessica James and the Bridgeport Speedway management team for allowing me to host this event for the benefit of the Mesothelioma Applied Research Foundation, "The Meso Foundation is the national non-profit dedicated to ending the suffering caused by Mesothelioma" at www.CureMeso.org and my Racing for a Cure fundraising drive this year at www.BillThomasRacing.com/RacingforaCure . To also thank my family and all the Race Teams involved in the show, and the many fans that visited & supported my cause at the Mall. Thanks to all the race teams and vendors that donated items for the Chinese auction table and those that made donations directly to the Foundation. The donations are still coming in and we have raised over $1,3450.00 to date so far for the Meso Foundation in their effort to fund research to find a cure for Mesothelioma. Yesterday I posted some information about a Mesothelioma awareness and fund raising event coming up in Pennsylvania, in cooperation with the Bridgeport Speedway. The event is the first ever “Meet and Greet” that will allow race fans to meet the drivers and see the cars of  Bridgeport Speedway

Today I talked to event organizer Bill Thomas, Sr., of Bill Thomas Racing. He said the event was born of necessity, when he discovered in August that he has Mesothelioma. Already active with his son, Bill Jr., on the racing circuit, an event tied to the sport seemed a natural fit.
“Racing with my son is a big part of my life,” he said. “I had to retire as a result of having meso, and I felt like I really needed to do something and give back so I came up with this event.”
The Meet & Greet will feature a number of drivers from the Bridgeport Speedway, located in Bridgeport, New Jersey, which bills itself as “The Fastest Dirt Track in the East.” Ms. Motorsports 2009 also will attend the event. A silent auction will help raise money for  Mesothelioma research, with proceeds going to the Mesothelioma Applied Research Foundation.
The event is set for March 7 and 8 at the Granite Run Mall in Media, Penn.
More information about featured drivers and other events will be available in the next few weeks prior to the event. You can also follow the new Bill Thomas Racing Blog If you are interested in donating items for the silent auction, or volunteering in any other way, please contact Bill Thomas at 610-329-0239 or email him at billthomasracing@comcast.net.
